Born on 31st May 1976 in Castleknock to Mother Rita and Father Eamon Farrell; a football player, Colin Farrell is the second child of the family. He has two sisters and an older brother. He completed his junior school at St. Brigid’s National School and his secondary school at a private boy’s school. He has completed his high school from Gormanston College at County Meath. He has an uncle, Tommy Farrell who was also a football player and played for the same team as his father; Shamrock Rovers FC.

Colin Farrell sees Henry Thomas as his inspiration for his acting. He attended Gaiety School of Acting but dropped shortly after, to take his role in B.B.C.’s drama Ballykissangel. When Colin Farrell was traveling to Sydney at age 18, he was suspected of a murder attempt but was cleared after his friend showed a journal explaining them taking MDMA all night at the time of the incident.

After working in B.B.C.’s drama Ballykissangel, Colin Farrell also worked in Falling for a Dancer in 1999. His first feature film was Tim Roth’s “The War Zone” which was also the director’s debut directorial film. He made his first appearance in Hollywood from Tigerland in which he took the role of Private Roland Bozz. The movie made $139,500 in the box office.

He did two more films which did not perform well at the box office. His commercial success came from the three thriller genre movies; Phone Booth, The Recruit, and S.W.A.T. The actor has had relations with Amelia Warner from 2000 to 2001. He was also linked with Britney Spears, Nicole Narain, Josie Maran, Angelina Jolie, Maeve Quinlan and Demi Moore. He has a son with American model Kim Bordenave. He was also linked with Muireann McDonnell, an Irish Medical Student. He and Emma Forrest dated for a year. In October Farrell had his second son with model Alicja Bachleda-Curuś. They ended their relationship in 2010.

He admitted himself to a rehabilitation center for treatment of his addiction to recreational drugs and pain killers.

He filed a lawsuit against his ex-girlfriend, Nicole Narain for releasing a sex tape they made during their time together for which he was offered $5million to take its rights. The case settled eventually in later months.
